update: Missing Senior found. McCain is in Denver today holding a townhall meeting. Afterwards he plans on watching Matlock then falling asleep during the VP debates.

One month out

Actually 33 days until the election but it's close enough to start predictions

Overly optimistic? Maybe. But it isn't a complete fantasy.
Georgia, Louisiana and West Virgina are the only real longshots there. North Dakota and Montana will be tight but very doable.
Everything else is already solid Obama or close enough that momentum is moving it to the blue column.
McCain is running a terrible campaign and he's running out of time to turn it around. But the worst part for McMaverick is that every poll he's behind is like a kid screaming the emperor has no clothes. McCain was suppose to be about strength. He tries to convey the image of a solid dependable leader, but those tracking polls point out what a failure he is.
So for the next month he'll swing wildly from stunt to stunt. Launch attacks that grow in absurdity. Stories will appear with increasing frequency with staff infighting. The press will write McCain's political obituary before October is over and start discussing Obama's first 100 days as President.
And every negative piece of news will dampen support for the GOP. Why bother showing up to the voting booth if it's a foregone conclusion your guy is going to lose by a landslide Meanwhile the few people who remain in the fence and leaned toward Obama will feel safe supporting him. Who doesn't want to be on the winning team?

I also learned last night upon my return that John McCain’s operative in Pennsylvania, Republican County Chair Victor Stabile, filed an appeal after soundly losing his case to throw Bob Barr off of the ballot. This operative for John McCain is relentless in his quest to remove Bob from the ballot despite the Pennsylvania Libertarian Party dotting every “i” and crossing every “t” in their effort to place Bob on the ballot.

I cannot figure out why more Democrats haven't donated to Bob Barr.

Big deal, you say. You get your 1% from the local walmart and it comes from 100% American dairy cows. Other than a slew of antibiotics it's filled with it's perfectly safe. Okay, it probably is.
But before you get all smug, check your cabinets. Read the ingredients of everything and if it says milk protein concentrate or whey protein or powdered milk or dehydrated milk solids or anything along those lines maybe you should wonder where they get that stuff.
There's no reason to think American companies are getting this stuff from the same Chinese sources involved in the baby formula scare - except for the fact that none have rushed out to say "don't worry we don't get our stuff from China".

Globalization rocks, but those kidney stones are a bitch.

Mark Foley and John McCain

Yeah it seems like a stretch to put the two of those republicans in a headline, but stick with for a moment.
Mark Foley was the Congressmen from Florida who resigned right before the last mid-term election due a problem he had sending NSFW messages to underage boys.
News out today was he would not be facing any criminal charges for those actions. How did he get off the hook?

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement said it had not been able to obtain original records of the instant messages and noted that both the House of Representatives and Foley had denied investigators access to government computers to search for saved messages.

"FDLE conducted as thorough and comprehensive investigation as possible considering Congress and Mr. Foley denied us access to critical data," FDLE Commissioner Gerald Bailey said in a statement.

McCain and Palin have been talking about how they're going to reform Washington and bring more transparency to Congress, wouldn't this be a good place to start shining some sunlight?

Who will Palin pick as her VP?

Steve Benen at Washington Monthly highlights the numerous gaffes McCain has recently made. The press has already picked up on the fact that McCain is a liar. How long before it's openly asked if he's following in Reagan's mental footsteps.

After those questions start does the GOP have any option other than dropping him from the ticket?

Seriously.

Palin has energized the republican base or so the media tells us. McCain and Palin are bringing in (exaggerated) crowds. Governor Palin is a huge hit with the evangelicals.
John McCain...not so much.

Let's be honest here. There is a large segment of the Republican party that just doesn't like John McCain. He's nearly the GOP version of Lieberman. Maybe that's why moderates liked McCain - anyone that pisses off the wing nut crowd can't be that bad right?
The only reason McCain won the nomination was because his party was so fractured; the corporate crowd wanted Romney, the evangelicals wanted Huckabee, the media wanted Rudy and a sizable chunk of the grassroots wanted Ron Paul.
Like Kerry in 2004, McCain wasn't many people's first choice but when the rest crashed and burned he seemed acceptable. He was the backup date for the prom.
There was always an excitement deficit for the republicans. It showed in the polls and the rallies and the fund raising. It wasn't unreasonable to speculate how big of a landslide Obama was going to win.
Picking Palin brought the crowds out though. Donation started pouring in and McCain/Palin looked like they had a real chance to actually win the election. Team McCain took a gamble going with a Washington outsider and it paid off in spades with excitement.
Except that excitement isn't transferring over to McCain. When he does appear without Palin, he isn't attracting the same crowds. The chatter in coffee shops isn't about McCain, it's about her. He simply is still less popular with his base than his running mate.

Before McCain transformed (this week) into the populous reformer, Leadership was suppose to be his mantra. How sad is it that he's having trouble leading his own ticket?

So McCain is either easily confused or just doesn't like Spaniards. Whichever it is, I'm sure it's good news for McCain.

But remember,unlike technology, or the economy or health care, John McCain understands foreign policy!!

Culture of Greed

According to McCain "greed, irresponsibility and corruption" are to blame for the economy being in the crapper.
Speaking of irresponsiblity and greed, Fiorina has been banished from being a mouth piece for walnuts.

Perhaps Fiorina can be shuffled from and economic advisor to McCain's spy czar.
